Two 17-year-olds are facing charges following a violent incident that played out shortly after 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 6 at the pool, leaving two teens with gunshot wounds.
Upon arrival at the pool, deputies found the 15-year-old boy with a gunshot to his back. He was treated at the scene and medevaced to an area hospital for treatment of what were described as “serious, but non-life-threatening” injuries.
With an assist from a police K-9, deputies were able to canvas a nearby wooded area, which led them to two 17-year-olds from Woodbridge hiding in a shed on Boodocks Lane, one of whom had been shot in the leg.
He was rushed to the hospital for treatment of his injury and later released into the custody of Stafford County Sheriff deputies. The second was detained without incident and transported to the sheriff’s office.
During an hours-long search of the woods, three handguns were recovered by investigators, who worked through the night and into Friday morning to probe the shootings.
The early investigation found that the two Woodbridge teens traveled to Stafford when they encountered their 15-year-old victim. There was a brief struggle between the three that ended with shots being fired.
It is unclear who shot who during the exchange.
The Woodbridge resident who was shot in the leg was charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The other was charged with possession of a firearm by a minor and grand larceny of a firearm.
Both are being held at the Juvenile Detention Center. Officials noted that it is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be filed.
Detectives are actively working to determine how the teens found themselves in possession of the guns. The 15-year-old was still being treated for his injuries on Friday, April 7.
During the investigation, as a precaution, the H.H. Poole Middle School, Park Ridge Elementary School, the Merit School of Stafford and Porter Library were placed on full lockdown, while North Stafford High School entered a partial lockdown.
